5 Things You Didn’t Know Your Smartphone Could Do

Do you remember those days when mobile phones were primarily used for calling other people? That was a long time ago. Now, people use their cell phones for so much more. Check out some of the coolest things you can do with your smartphone with the technology that is out there today. Once you unlock your phone’s full potential, even text messaging will become a thing of the past. Well, maybe not.

Okay, take a look and let us know your favourite! If you use any of these already, leave a comment and share your experience.

  1. Checks Your Blood Alcohol Level

You’re out with your friends, and you’ve had a couple of drinks. Well, you think you’ve had a couple of drinks, but you honestly don’t remember. Maybe you had two, or maybe you had four. You think you’re OK to drive but it’s never okay to drink and drive! Quick fact – Saskatchewan has the highest rate of drunk driving in Canada. Most people fear the risk of getting a DUI or worse yet, hurting or killing someone. But that hasn’t stopped people from getting behind the wheel here in Saskatoon. We suggest sleeping it off or finding a ride from a friend or a taxi.

Instead of stressing out about your blood alcohol level, let your smartphone settle the debate. You might not realize it, but your smartphone can transform into a handheld breathalyzer that you can use during those nights out on the town.

Just get one of the smartphone breathalyzers from BACtrack and pair it with your phone. Then, take the test, and you’ll know if you need to call an cab to take you home or if you can safely get behind the wheel.

  1. Monitor Your Heart Rate

If you’re interested in health and fitness, you know the importance of monitoring your heart rate. You need to check it when you’re working out, and you also need to monitor it when you’re sitting around watching TV. Unfortunately, the old school way of monitoring your heart rate is a pain. You don’t want to find your pulse with your fingertips and count your beats while the second hand moves around the clock. The good news is that you don’t have to do that, thanks to your smartphone.

Use an app like Instant Heart Rate and keep track of your heart rate throughout the day. You just need to put your finger on your phone, and it will check your heart rate for you. Then, you can save your data and compare it.

  1. Act as an Auto Mechanic

You’re driving along the road and then your check engine light comes on. You feel your stomach go weak. You hate going to the mechanic. You know you’ll walk out of the shop with a $1000 bill, no matter what is wrong. The mechanic can tell that you don’t know anything about cars and overcharges you every single time.

Avoid a huge bill by having your smartphone detect the problem before you pull into the shop.

Get Automatic Pro and pair it with your smartphone. Then, your smartphone will turn into a diagnostic tool so you’ll never have to go into a mechanic shop blind again.

You plug the Automatic Pro adapter into your car’s standard diagnostic’s port. Then, it connects to your smartphone and gives you diagnostic information if your engine light comes on. On top of that, it tells you where you parked so you don’t have to wander around the parking lot ever again.

  1. Detects Infrared Light

The naked eye can’t detect infrared light, but your smartphone can. You might not need to detect infrared light in your day-to-day life, but it comes in handy when your remote control stops working. You don’t know if the batteries are out or if you need to start troubleshooting. Before you get out of your comfortable chair to get new batteries, use your smartphone to check for infrared light. Open up the phone’s camera. Look through the viewfinder and press a button on the remote. If the batteries are working, a white or purple beam will show up. That means it’s time to troubleshoot the remote. If a beam doesn’t show up, you need to get out of your chair and get some new batteries. Better yet, if you have kids, stay in your chair and have them get some batteries for you. If you need some new batteries, we’re your one-stop-shop at Bolt Mobile. Fun Fact – Battery Boys was founded in 1989 and in June of 2016, the company re-branded to Bolt Mobile. Batteries is still a big part of what we do! https://boltmobile.ca/batteries/
